Brazilian political candidates accused of physical aggression in separate incidents

Two separate incidents of alleged physical aggression involving political candidates have been reported in Brazil.

In Goiânia, former city councilor and PSDB state deputy candidate Edson Vieira da Silva is accused of assaulting a gas station attendant. Security footage shows a confrontation where Vieira da Silva struck a worker in the face. The candidate admitted to the physical contact but claimed he acted in self-defense after being threatened with a knife. Following the incident, PSDB councilman Tião Peixoto called for the former official's expulsion from the party.

In Roraima, a meeting between PSDB state deputy candidate Jalser Renier and federal deputy candidate Édio Lopes reportedly ended in violence. Renier filed a police report alleging that after a dispute regarding the candidacy of Renier's wife, he was surrounded by more than ten men. Renier claims he was tripped and pushed to the ground by Lopes' son. The conflict reportedly stemmed from political disagreements regarding party stability and candidate competition.
