Romero Jucá withdraws from 2026 federal deputy race
Former senator Romero Jucá (MDB) has announced his withdrawal from the race for federal deputy in Roraima for the 2026 elections. This decision comes shortly after Supreme Court (STF) Minister Flávio Dino suspended the effects of a conviction for passive corruption and money laundering, which had temporarily restored Jucá's eligibility.
Jucá cited personal and family attacks as the primary reason for his withdrawal, stating that the “low and vile dispute” no longer fits his life. Despite being legally eligible to run following judicial decisions by both the STF and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), the former minister and long-time senator decided to step away from the electoral process.
The withdrawal creates a strategic gap for the MDB in Roraima, where Jucá serves as the party president. The party has not yet indicated if a replacement candidate will be fielded.
