Brazilian poll shows mixed view on US terrorism label for PCC and Comando Vermelho

An Ipsos/Ipec survey of 2,000 Brazilians in 130 municipalities, conducted June 13‑17, examined public reaction to the United States’ decision to designate the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and the Comando Vermelho (CV) as terrorist organizations.

Thirty‑nine percent of respondents said the move reflected U.S. interference in Brazil’s internal affairs, while 54 % agreed it constituted such interference. More than half (56 %) believed the designation puts residents of communities controlled by the gangs at risk. Opinions were split on broader impacts: 31 % expected economic harm, another 31 % saw no economic effect; 48 % thought security would improve, versus 41 % who disagreed. Regarding the digital payments system Pix, 52 % ruled out any threat, and 48 % felt the decision posed no risk to national resources such as rare‑earth minerals or the Amazon region.
