Brazilian presidential elections draw thousands to Buenos Aires embassy
More than 11,000 Brazilian citizens gathered at the Brazilian Embassy in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires to participate in the country's presidential elections. The voting day was characterized by long lines and political tension, as supporters of candidates Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro exchanged chants and slogans in the streets.
During the proceedings, police arrested 47-year-old Emiliano Fuentes Firmani, a dual Argentine-Brazilian national, in front of the diplomatic mission. The arrest occurred when local police attempted to seize goods from an unauthorized street vendor selling presidential merchandise. Fuentes Firmani reportedly intervened to prevent the seizure and attempted to retain the merchandise, leading to his detention on charges of resistance to authority and assault on an officer. The incident caused moments of tension among the voters waiting in line.
