Virginia Fonseca sued for R$120 million by Brazilian MP over betting ads
The Ministry of Public Prosecution of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) filed a civil public action against digital influencer Virginia Fonseca and the online betting platform Blaze, seeking R$120 million in collective moral damages. The suit alleges that Fonseca promoted betting content on Instagram Stories during the 2026 World Cup without clearly indicating it was advertising, and received roughly 30 % of the losses incurred by bettors she attracted, notably during the Argentina‑Cabo Verde match. The prosecutor cites over 42 000 consumer complaints about blocked accounts, retained funds and abusive marketing practices by Blaze.
Senator Cleitinho Azevedo, who had previously asked for a selfie with Fonseca during the CPI on bets, publicly apologized, calling his request an “error.” Fonseca’s defense argues she had no intent to harm consumers and that the accusations lack concrete evidence, pledging to respond in court. Blaze maintains it complies with legal and responsible‑gaming standards and will cooperate with the investigation.
