Brazilian regulators approve unified psychotherapy rule and national pharmacovigilance system

The Federal Council of Psychology and regional councils approved a unified position that psychotherapy is an exclusive practice of psychologists, establishing it as a privative function of the profession across Brazil. The decision, taken at the 2026 Assembly of Policies, Administration and Finance (Apaf), also introduced reservation quotas for Black and Indigenous candidates in council exams and set new fee ceilings for 2027.

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) approved a public consultation on a draft resolution to create the National Pharmacovigilance System (Sinaf). The system will monitor adverse drug events post‑market, defining responsibilities for stakeholders and strengthening health‑safety governance. The draft will be open for comment for 45 days, alongside updates to electronic prescription control and other regulatory measures.
