Brazilian Report Finds Most Child Sexual Assaults Occur at Home

Data from the Brazilian Public Security Annual 2026 shows that 59.2% of sexual assaults against children and adolescents up to age 13 are committed by family members or known persons, and 64.9% of the incidents happen in the victims' own residences. Public spaces account for only 6.5% of cases, with schools, health facilities and other institutions each responsible for less than 3%.

In parallel, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate approved a legislative proposal that removes a Conanda resolution guaranteeing unfettered access to legal abortion for rape victims who are minors. The change would reinstate procedural obstacles and could delay or deny abortions for children conceived as a result of sexual violence.
