Brazil's reverse‑logistics for electric‑vehicle batteries faces regulatory and financial hurdles
A 2025 academic study examined the challenges and prospects of reverse logistics for lithium‑ion batteries from electric vehicles in Brazil. The research considered environmental impacts and the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS), using an exploratory qualitative approach based on documentary analysis and sectoral data. Findings highlighted regulatory, structural and financial limitations that impede the establishment of an effective collection and recycling system for used EV batteries. The authors proposed actions to improve waste‑management practices, align business strategies with public policies, and support decision‑making in the Brazilian automotive sector, aiming to advance a circular‑economy model.
The study underscores the need for clearer regulations, stronger infrastructure and financial incentives to enable sustainable handling of electric‑vehicle battery waste in Brazil.
