Brazilian retirees face pension calculation errors and unauthorized deductions

Errors in the National Social Security Information Database (CNIS) can lead to lower INSS pension payments. Incomplete salary records, missing employment periods or mis‑recorded contributions may reduce a retiree’s benefit by hundreds of reais per month, prompting experts to advise regular checks of the CNIS and use of the Meu INSS simulation tool.

Separately, a retired University of Brasília employee has been under an unauthorized monthly deduction by the Association of Federal Servants and Pensioners (ASFEP). The charge, first R$ 139.90 in 2015, rose to R$ 174.12 by 2020 – a 24 % increase amounting to over R$ 8,000 in total. The retiree, never a member of ASFEP, is pursuing legal restitution while still reliant on the pension for medical and daily expenses.
