Brazilian samba schools unveil 2027 carnival themes and mark Viradouro's 80th anniversary

Beija-Flor Tuiuti Viradouro 80th anniversary 2027 carnival theme female protagonism

The samba schools Beija‑Flor of Nilópolis and Tuiuti of Paraíso presented their 2027 carnival enredos, both centred on female protagonism. Beija‑Flor will honour indigenous leader Dona Zeneida, linking her story to themes of resilience, environmental protection and the fight against gender‑based violence. Tuiuti will celebrate the legacy of Tia Ciata, a pioneering Afro‑Brazilian figure who helped shape samba culture.

Separately, the Unidos do Viradouro in Niterói commemorated its 80th anniversary on 27 June 2026 with a public gala. The event featured a concert by Banda Celebrare, performances by the school’s Time Viradouro, and appearances by muses from Portela and Beija‑Flor. Tickets were priced at R$30, with additional options for VIP box seats.
