Brazilian school raises funds for student with rare disease
Students in the senior class of Colégio Unibave organized a cake‑sale fundraiser to support their classmate Mateus Carrer Della Justina, a 15‑year‑old diagnosed with acute intermittent porphyria after complications from an appendix operation. The school‑yard sales generated R$ 754, which was given to Mateus’ family to help cover his intensive medical and rehabilitation costs.
An online crowdfunding campaign was also launched, and it has since raised over R$ 190,000. The funds are intended to pay for specialized treatment, medication, and ongoing physiotherapy. The school principal highlighted the effort as a moment of solidarity and empathy within the community.
