Brazilian schools and water utility hold environmental education events for World Environment Day
On 5 June, to mark World Environment Day, the water utility Embasa organized a series of educational activities in the Caetité and Guanambi region of Bahia. Participants visited a water‑treatment plant, viewed a river‑bank model, used virtual‑reality headsets and took part in games such as “Jump for Water” and “Guardians of the River” that emphasized water conservation, waste disposal and river protection. Milena Oliveira, Embasa’s socio‑environmental coordinator, said the event helped people understand the importance of basic sanitation and water resources.
In São Paulo’s São João neighbourhood, the Cemei Mercedes Fernandes school staged its own programme of environmental awareness. Children planted beans in recycled PET bottles, learned about recycling, and attended a talk by Saev Ambiental professionals. The activities culminated on 15 June with a dramatized storytelling session. Education secretary Silvia Letícia highlighted the value of teaching sustainable habits early, noting that such experiences shape responsible citizens.
Both initiatives aimed to raise ecological awareness among children and the wider community through hands‑on learning and interactive displays.
