Lucas do Rio Verde schools win water‑saving awards

The Municipal Water and Sewage Service (Saaé) of Lucas do Rio Verde recognized 24 municipal schools for water‑saving actions during Water Month. The event, held on 18 June, awarded the schools with the best consumption‑reduction rates. Escola Municipal Érico Veríssimo led the list, cutting water use by 12.4% in March – about 22,700 liters, equivalent to 23 residential water tanks – and received a R$2,500 prize and a trophy. The second‑place schools, Caminho Para o Futuro, CEI Paulo Freire and Creche Anjo da Guarda, reported reductions of 9.64%, 6.79% and 2.02% respectively. The program was backed by the municipal education secretariat and the Sicredi cooperative, which also funded R$1,000 prizes for student cooperatives that produced videos on water waste. Officials highlighted the role of teachers, students and the broader community in fostering lasting water‑conservation habits.
