Brazilian schools implement environmental and technological education projects

Educational initiatives in Brazil are integrating environmental sustainability and technology into school curricula. In Goiânia, geography teacher Lazelane Ferreira has been named a finalist for the ‘Prêmio Educador Nota 10’ for her project, ‘Miniflorestas como Estratégia para o Conforto Térmico’. The project involves students in planting and caring for native Cerrado species to create mini-forests within the school grounds.

In the state of São Paulo, diverse projects are also driving practical learning. In Jundiaí, the ‘Vale Verde’ project has maintained a 50,000-square-meter organic garden for nearly three decades, teaching children aged 4 to 11 about sustainable agriculture and food origins. Meanwhile, in Itapetininga, high school students developed ‘ECOsat’, a miniature satellite designed to measure air quality by collecting atmospheric data via high-altitude balloons.
