Brazilian schools show high Ideb rankings despite Enem score gaps

Recent educational indices in Brazil reveal a discrepancy between basic education development and high school performance. According to the Ideb 2025 results, several schools in Minas Gerais and Goiás have achieved high national rankings.

In Minas Gerais, schools in Lafaiete, Entre Rios de Minas, and Barbacena secured top positions. Notably, the Escola Preparatória de Cadetes do Ar (EPCAR) ranked 1st in the state for high school. In Lafaiete, the Escola Estadual Marechal Humberto de Alencar Castello Branco led the early years of elementary school with an Ideb of 8.5, while the Escola Municipal Professor Doriol Beato ranked 5th in the state for the final years of elementary school.

In Goiás, the state's high school education is among the best in the country according to Ideb, with 10 of the top 20 schools located in the state, including five in Formosa. However, these same institutions show lower performance in the National High School Exam (Enem). For instance, the Colégio Estadual Doutor José Balduíno de Souza Décio, ranked 3rd nationally by Ideb, sits at 8,268th in the Enem ranking. No public school in Goiás reached the 600-point threshold on the Enem.
