Brazilian Senate book is a finalist for Jabuti Academic Prize

A publication from the Brazilian Senate, titled ‘Cuidando da Nossa Terra: Experiências Wayana e Aparai de gestão territorial e ambiental na Amazônia’, has been named a finalist for the 3rd Jabuti Academic Prize. The book competes in the agricultural and environmental sciences category.

Authored by Iori Leonel Arnoldo Hussak Van Velthem Linke, the work is based on a doctoral thesis developed at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). It examines the National Policy for Territorial and Environmental Management of Indigenous Lands and its implementation by the Wayana and Aparai peoples. The text explores the historical formation of these Karib-speaking groups, their right to land autonomy, and their role in Amazonian environmental conservation through traditional knowledge and sustainable lifestyles.

The book is part of the COP 30 Collection, launched by the Senate's Editorial Council. The Jabuti Academic Prize, established in 2024, evaluates entries based on scientific relevance, editorial quality, and potential impact. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in São Paulo.
