Brazilian Senate Candidate Flávio Bolsonaro Faces Poll Censorship

Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) suspended the AtlasIntel poll commissioned by the Liberal Party (PL) after the poll showed a six‑point drop for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and a rise for President Luiz Inácio Lula. The court justified the suspension by alleging that the questionnaire was designed to induce unfavorable responses toward Bolsonaro, referencing audio recordings linking him to businessman Daniel Vorcaro of Banco Master.

A separate poll conducted by the institute Quaest, produced in partnership with Banco Genial, confirmed the decline in Bolsonaro's voter intentions and highlighted Lula's lead. Carlos Bolsonaro, the senator's brother, publicly attacked the Quaest poll on social media, claiming it was biased because of its funding source.

The episode underscores tensions over the role of opinion‑research institutes in Brazil’s upcoming 2026 elections and raises questions about the TSE’s neutrality in adjudicating electoral matters.
