Brazilian Senate health plan faces R$ 40 million deficit

A report by Ranking dos Políticos reveals a significant deficit in the health insurance plan provided to Brazilian senators, former senators, and their dependents. In 2025, the plan collected approximately R$ 5.18 million in revenue but incurred expenses totaling R$ 40.48 million.

The user base includes 79 current senators, 187 former senators, and 363 dependents. The deficit covers various costs, including service provider payments, long-term treatments, indemnities, and reimbursements. The monthly cost per beneficiary in the Senate is reported at R$ 5,362.59.

In contrast, the health assistance plan for the Chamber of Deputies maintains a surplus, with R$ 8.35 million in revenue against R$ 8.22 million in expenses, resulting in a monthly cost per beneficiary of R$ 520.88.
