Brazilian Senate holds special session honoring Freemasonry

The Brazilian Senate held a special session on Friday to honor Mason Day, celebrated annually on August 20. The date commemorates the 1822 founding of the Grande Oriente do Brasil (GOB) in Rio de Janeiro, an event linked to the movement for Brazilian independence led by figures such as Joaquim Gonçalves Ledo.

Leaders from various Masonic branches, including the Grande Oriente do Brasil, the Confederação da Maçonaria Simbólica do Brasil (CMSB), and the Confederação Maçônica do Brasil (Comab), participated in the ceremony. Representatives discussed the historical role of the institution in shaping the nation and called for increased cooperation between the different Masonic branches while maintaining their respective autonomy.

Speakers emphasized the importance of honoring the legacy of previous generations by addressing contemporary social challenges in Brazil, including inequality, violence, and corruption.
