Brazilian Senator Jaques Wagner Targeted in Federal Police Operation

Federal police carried out the ninth phase of Operation Compliance Zero, executing search and seizure warrants in the Federal District, São Paulo and Bahia. The operation focuses on Senator Jaques Wagner, a leading figure of President Lula’s government in the Senate, and alleged involvement in a multibillion‑real‑estate fraud, money‑laundering and corruption scheme linked to the Banco Master financial group.

Investigators allege Wagner received bribes worth roughly R$ 3.5 million through companies tied to his family, benefited from a luxury apartment in Salvador, private‑jet travel and expensive concert tickets. The Senate leader’s close associate, public‑relations executive Guilherme Henrique Sodré – described by the STF as a “person of close trust” to the senator – was also subjected to the same measures. Sodré, married to a Bahia state judge, is accused of acting as a liaison between Banco Master and Wagner’s parliamentary office. The Supreme Court ordered additional precautionary measures, including suspension of passports and a ban on contact among the investigated parties.
