Brazilian Sensory Gardens Showcase Native Flora and Wellness

Landscape designers in Brazil are expanding garden concepts beyond decoration to create multisensory spaces that engage sight, sound, touch, smell and even taste. Projects by Depieri Paisagismo, led by Cleber and Arthur Depieri, integrate aromatic plants, textured foliage, water features and natural sounds in residences, hotels, schools and offices, aiming to promote relaxation and mental‑health benefits.

At the recent CASACOR São Paulo event, landscape architect Pam Faccin presented a garden built from more than 100 native Atlantic Forest species. The design emphasizes low‑impact materials and demonstrates how Brazil’s endemic flora can reinforce cultural identity while offering aesthetic and ecological value. Faccin called for broader adoption of native plants by professionals and consumers, noting the need for a larger market of growers and a richer design repertoire.
