Later the same day, Londrina hosted Athletic in the 14th round of the national Campeonato Brasileiro Série B, needing a win to climb out of the relegation zone. Despite several injuries and suspensions, Londrina hoped to break a historic losing streak against Athletic, who entered the match unbeaten in their three previous meetings.
