Brazilian short films win awards at Caruaru and Guarnicê festivals
The short film ‘Umbuzeiro’ won five awards at the 13th Caruaru Film Festival in Pernambuco, Brazil. During the Agreste Showcase, the production secured honors for Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Actress, awarded to Múcia Teixeira.
Since its debut, ‘Umbuzeiro’ has accumulated 15 awards and 19 selections across domestic and international festivals, including screenings in the United Kingdom, United States, Italy, Spain, and Argentina. The film is scheduled for upcoming screenings at the Transhumant Festival in Spain and the 18th Corto Rodado International Short Film Festival in Argentina.
In a separate achievement for Brazilian audiovisual, the short film ‘Miolo’, directed by Daniel Moreno, won the Itaú Cultural Play Award at the 49th Guarnicê Film Festival in Maranhão. The award recognizes authentic Brazilian narratives, specifically highlighting ‘Miolo’ for its human portrayal of a worker balancing family care, employment, and the cultural tradition of bumba-meu-boi.
