Brazilian states commit over R$20 million to modernize hospitals in Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Sul

Governor Raquel Lyra of Pernambuco inaugurated the upgraded Unidade de Pronto Atendimento – Especialidades (UPAE) in Goiana and a newly refurbished pediatric emergency department at Hospital Belarmino Correia, investing a combined R$8.5 million. The work added new medical equipment, diagnostic rooms, endoscopy and colonoscopy suites, and created 13 pediatric emergency beds with modernized facilities.

Governor Eduardo Leite of Rio Grande do Sul signed the launch of a revitalisation project for the historic Hospital Psiquiátrico São Pedro in Porto Alegre, allocating R$5.6 million initially and an additional R$5 million for the complex’s historic sector, totalling R$12 million. The renovation, slated for completion in early 2027, will address structural repairs, upgrade electrical and plumbing systems, install acoustic‑thermal roofing, and preserve heritage elements while improving care for mental‑health patients across the state.
