Ananindeua's R$5 million choperia contract faces probe over capacity and pricing

The former mayor of Ananindeua, Daniel Santos, signed a public‑procurement contract worth about R$5 million with Vero‑Chopp Choperia Ltda to supply meals and snacks to the municipal health network. The agreement calls for more than 200,000 full‑meal portions, 40,000 snack items, hundreds of thousands of water bottles, sodas and coffee‑break services for hospitals, UPAs and other health units over a year.

The Pará Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPPA) and the State Court of Accounts (TCMPA) have opened investigations after a lawyer highlighted possible irregularities: the company, known primarily as a bar and choperia, lacks industrial‑kitchen facilities and reported assets of less than R$70,000, raising doubts about its ability to meet the volume required. Prices per meal (R$20) and snack (R$8) appear higher than market rates, suggesting overpricing. Over R$1.2 million has already been paid from the municipal health fund, and an amendment added R$329 thousand for additional coffee‑break services. The inquiries will examine the legality of the bidding process, the contract’s financial terms and the supplier’s technical capacity.
