Brazilian States Seek Military Assistance for 2026 Election
Seven Brazilian states – Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio de Janeiro and Roraima – have formally requested logistical support from the Armed Forces for the first round of the 2026 general election. The request, presented by the general‑secretary of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Murilo Salmito Nolêto, aims to ensure normal voting operations, especially in remote or difficult‑to‑access areas and to facilitate the “Seu Voto Importa” program for voters with disabilities. The military support will complement, not replace, the electoral courts’ own logistics and will be coordinated with the Ministry of Defence once approved by the TSE plenary.
