Brazilian STJ Judge Marco Buzzi Accused of Sexual Misconduct; Defense Cites Erectile Dysfunction

Minister Marco Buzzi, 68, of Brazil's Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ), has been suspended since February while investigations proceed into two sexual misconduct accusations. An 18‑year‑old woman, the daughter of friends, said Buzzi tried to seize her during a beach bath in Balneário Camboriú, Santa Catarina, in January. A court employee also filed a complaint of sexual harassment.

Buzzi's lawyers submitted medical reports to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) asserting that he suffers from severe erectile dysfunction, chronic loss of libido, hypogonadism, and related conditions stemming from prior prostate surgery, diabetes and hypertension. The urological assessment concludes that his clinical state is incompatible with the alleged conduct. A witness statement also claims no physical contact occurred, noting that Buzzi merely offered his hand to help the woman out of the water.

The case is being examined by the STF, the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and the STJ, under secret‑justice provisions, with further testimony and evidence expected.
