Brazil opens registration for 5th National Energy Efficiency Olympiad
The Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (ANEEL) announced that registrations are open until 15 September for the 5th edition of the Olimpíada Nacional de Eficiência Energética (ONEE) 2026. The competition targets students in the 8th and 9th years of elementary school and, for the first time, the 1st and 2nd years of high school, from both public and private schools nationwide. Organizers aim to enlist up to 660 000 participants across Brazil.
Phase 1 runs online from 4 to 18 September with interactive games on energy‑saving practices. The subsequent testing period occurs 21 to 25 September, after which 54 finalists (27 from elementary and 27 from high school) are announced in early October. A national award ceremony is scheduled for 5 November in Brasília, followed by an Olympiad Week (2 – 6 November) featuring the final gamified challenge and an objective written test. Since its inception, the ONEE has engaged more than 490 000 students, 22 000 teachers and 8 000 schools.
