Brazilian surfers face setbacks at WSL Teahupo'o event
Brazilian surfers have faced significant challenges during the WSL event in Teahupo'o, Tahiti. Gabriel Medina suffered an accident during a training session when he struck a coral reef after returning from a wave. He sustained a head laceration that required four stitches, though he is reported to be in good condition. His ability to compete in his scheduled Round 2 heat will depend on the healing of the wound.
In the competition itself, Yago Dora, currently ranked third in the world, was eliminated in his opening heat after losing to Hawaii's Seth Moniz. Despite scoring an 8.00, Dora was unable to secure a high-scoring second wave in the heavy four-meter swells. Additionally, Filipe Toledo was also eliminated early in the event after failing to complete a wave during his heat against Japan's Connor O'Leary.
