Brazilian teachers' self‑training and working conditions in special and early childhood education
A qualitative study examined the self‑formation processes of special‑education teachers at a reference school in the Minas Gerais state network. Researchers found that discussion of continuing education and self‑training is limited in the school environment, yet teachers manage to allocate scarce time to improve their practice.
Another nationwide investigation surveyed 152 early‑childhood teachers employed by federal universities across Brazil. Using online questionnaires and reflective letters, the study revealed that professional identity begins shaping before formal entry into the federal teaching career, influenced by family background and prior experiences. Respondents reported a blend of pride and overload as they balance pedagogical work with university demands for research, extension, and administration.
