João Fonseca targets US hard‑court swing after Wimbledon loss

Brazilian tennis prodigy João Fonseca, age 19 and ranked No. 27, was eliminated in the third round of Wimbledon by Roman Safiullin. Following the defeat, he will compete in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown exhibition in Rio de Janeiro from 16 to 18 July.

He then returns to the ATP circuit for the Masters 1000 events in Montreal (starting 2 August) and Cincinnati (starting 13 August), before playing the US Open at Flushing Meadows on 31 August. In September, Fonseca is slated to represent Brazil in the Davis Cup tie in Rio beginning 17 September. The Brazilian hopes to defend 110 ranking points across these tournaments and move toward breaking into the Top 20.

His schedule reflects a strategic push on North‑American hard courts to regain form and improve his world ranking after the Wimbledon setback.
