Nineteen‑year‑old João Fonseca, ranked in the mid‑20s on the ATP tour, took the stage at the Expert XP investment festival in São Paulo. He reflected on his rapid rise from a multi‑sport childhood to professional tennis, emphasizing how “small failures” have become his biggest lessons and how competing against top players such as Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner has shaped his mental preparation.

Fonseca said his ultimate goal is to become world No. 1 and win a Grand Slam. He also discussed the pressure of representing Brazil and the encouragement he receives from fans. The panel, which also featured skier Lucas Braathen – the first Brazilian to win Olympic gold in a winter sport – highlighted the importance of perseverance and following one’s own path in elite competition.
