Brazilian Theatre Gatherings: SBAT Convida in Rio and FIT Festival in São José do Rio Preto

The Sociedade Brasileira de Autores Teatrais (SBAT) held a free SBAT Convida meeting on 4 August 2026 at Teatro Axia Casa Grande in Rio de Janeiro. The event gathered playwrights, theatre managers, administrators and other cultural professionals to discuss copyright, programming procedures, risk prevention and the legal framework of Brazil’s theatrical sector.

From 16 to 25 July 2026, the Festival Internacional de Teatro (FIT) in São José do Rio Preto presented 32 shows across 71 sessions, attracting 31,255 spectators. Organized by the municipal culture department, Sesc Rio Preto and the city mayor’s office, the festival highlighted a mix of national and international productions, including a circadian Afro‑Brazilian opening performance that drew 4,000 attendees. Officials emphasized the festival’s role in boosting the creative economy and expanding public access to the arts.
