Brazilian tourism sector expects holiday boost amid pricing concerns

The upcoming September 7 national holiday is expected to boost activity in the bars and restaurants sector across various Brazilian tourist regions. According to Abrasel, some cities may see a growth in movement exceeding 10% due to increased visitor flow and local events.

In Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, businesses are preparing for the holiday, aided by the traditional Festival de Sabores de Cabo Frio. While weather conditions like constant winds remain a concern for outdoor service, establishments are hiring additional staff to meet the anticipated demand. In addition to the national holiday, the cities of Santos in São Paulo and São Luís in Maranhão will observe a municipal holiday on September 8.

However, there are concerns regarding price gouging during high-demand periods. Some service providers and merchants may attempt to exploit tourists by charging unrealistic prices for food, transport, and accommodation. Experts warn that such practices damage the long-term reputation of tourist destinations and discourage repeat visits, ultimately harming honest local businesses.
