Brazilian towns address wall collapses, rescue dog and rebuild structures
In Concórdia, Santa Catarina, a wall on Rua Espanha collapsed on July 29‑30, 2024. Firefighters and civil defense crews heard a dog's bark from the rubble and carefully removed debris, rescuing the live animal and returning it to its owner.
In Blumenau, Santa Catarina, a deteriorating wall on Rua Tangará in the Glória neighbourhood that showed cracks and posed a risk of collapse was rebuilt this week. The municipality, led by urban services secretary Jociel Junkes, used a stone‑based containment technique to stabilize the terrain. The work, prompted by long‑standing community concerns, is expected to take about 30 days to complete.
