Brazilian towns advance plazas and road upgrades

The municipality of Itaboraí, Rio de Janeiro state, has moved the Praça da Caixa Econômica—officially named Praça Prefeito Roberto Pereira dos Santos—into the final phase of a revitalisation project. The work, part of the broader Avenida 22 de Maio modernization, includes urbanisation, landscaping, and the preservation of historic trees, aiming to improve pedestrian circulation and the overall functionality of the central area. No completion date has been announced.

In the rural district of Barrocas, a plaque was installed announcing a new public works contract that will pave streets in the village of Ipoeira and build a public square in the community of Lagoa dos Umbus. The R$ 2.39 million project, to be carried out by Virtus Construções e Transportes Ltda., is slated for a six‑month execution period with a contractual deadline of 9 June 2026. Local officials expressed confidence that work will begin shortly, despite the fact that construction has not yet started.
