Brazilian towns Atibaia and Botucatu boost school environmental education

The municipality of Atibaia organized a series of activities for local public‑school students during its Environment Week, including an educational forum with interactive experiments and guided field trips to the Serra do Itapetinga. The program, coordinated by the city’s Environment and Education secretariats, aimed to teach concepts such as the water cycle and climate change while exposing students to the Atlantic Forest remnants that protect municipal water sources.

In Botucatu, the city completed the first cohort of teachers in a "Tourism in School" program created by the municipal Tourism and Education secretariats. The training equipped educators to use local history, culture, and natural heritage as teaching tools, and resulted in a draft Educational Tourism Guide to support classroom‑linked field activities throughout the school year.
