Brazilian towns boost public safety with equipment grants and traffic‑accident simulations

Lucas do Rio Verde in Mato Grosso concluded the national "Maio Amarelo" road‑safety campaign on 29 May with a staged traffic‑accident drill. The municipal guard worked alongside the Military Police, Fire Department and local high‑school students to demonstrate rescue procedures and first‑aid measures. Security Secretary Colonel Marcos Cunha stressed the need for driver responsibility, noting that "this work is carried out all year, but it does not work without public awareness." The Guard commander added that "more than 98 % of accidents happen due to imprudence, not mechanical failure."

In São Paulo state, the municipality of Taboão da Serra subscribed to the federal "Município Mais Seguro" programme and received 355 non‑lethal devices for its municipal guard – 115 tasers and 240 pepper‑spray canisters. The acquisition aims to modernise the guard’s equipment, improve crime‑prevention projects and qualify use of force. Security Secretary Luis Peniche said, "We are implementing solutions to improve and modernise security in our city, from professional valorização to new equipment."
