Brazilian municipalities expand CRAS facilities and social programs

Municipalities across Brazil opened new or upgraded Centres for Reference of Social Assistance (CRAS) and launched related programs to broaden social support. In Feira de Santana, the Humildes district received a new, climate‑controlled CRAS building, with Mayor José Ronaldo de Carvalho highlighting the move from a provisional site to a permanent, dignified space for residents. Camaçari inaugurated the Jardim Limoeiro CRAS, serving more than 8,000 families in several neighbourhoods and offering services such as the Cadastro Único, PAIF and SCFV.

In Mirangaba, the Taquarandi CRAS provided physical‑assessment and nutritional counseling for participants of a functional‑training programme, underscoring the link between exercise and health promotion. Campo Grande’s Municipal Social Assistance Secretariat began a series of trainings called “Descomplicando o RMA” to standardise monthly attendance records across 117 units, improving data on diversity, migration and disability to guide policy and resource allocation.

Separately, Primavera do Leste expanded its inclusive sports agenda by launching a Paralympic athletics track within the “Craques do Amanhã” programme. Under coach Andressa Ueharo Carvalho, the project earned 12 medals—including 11 gold—at a regional meet and will compete in the state championship, aiming to increase participation of people with physical, visual and intellectual disabilities.
