Brazilian Municipalities Expand Tuberculosis Training and Awareness Programs

Health officials in Aquidauana, Brazil, held a training session for municipal health workers on clinical management of tuberculosis. The program, organized by the city's Health and Sanitation Secretariat, featured presentations by nurse Adriana Lanza and physician Dr. Daniela Vieira and covered early case detection, diagnostic testing, timely treatment initiation, patient adherence monitoring, drug side‑effect management and preventive measures.

In the neighboring municipality of Japeri, the FAMEJA initiative, supported by the Forum TBRJ, continues a community‑focused tuberculosis campaign. Activities include education in schools, public squares and resident associations, while the local health network—12 basic health units and municipal specialty centers—provides decentralized diagnosis and treatment. In 2025, the Engenheiro Pedreira specialty center recorded 93 treated pulmonary TB cases, and patients receive transport and social‑service support to complete therapy.
