Brazilian towns launch June campaigns to protect and empower seniors

Municipalities across Brazil are conducting a series of activities under the "Junho Violeta" campaign to raise awareness of elderly rights and prevent violence against seniors. The initiative includes educational talks, distribution of hygiene and personal‑care kits, and public blitzes providing information on how to report abuse.

In Maricá, a municipal lecture was held on preventing violence toward older persons. Votuporanga’s Procon organized a session for senior citizens at the Boa Vista II community centre, covering consumer‑rights and fraud prevention. Apucarana coordinated a citywide blitz on June 15 in Praça Rui Barbosa, distributed informational materials, and scheduled a special lecture on fall prevention at the local Sesc. In Cruzeiro do Sul, city officials delivered kits of cleaning supplies, mattresses and blankets to families affected by flooding, with a focus on assisting elderly residents.

These coordinated efforts aim to strengthen community protection, improve access to information, and encourage reporting of elder abuse throughout the country.
