Brazilian towns host 8th‑edition Arraial festivals celebrating Junina traditions

In Codó, Maranhão, the 8th Arraial da Vila took place on July 18‑19, featuring musical shows, bumba‑meu‑boi performances and traditional quadrilhas. Organizer Augusto Serra highlighted the event’s growth, noting “I have lived here for 10 years and we have been holding this arraial for 8 years,” and thanked the mayor and state support through the Aldir Blanc law.

In Mantena, Minas Gerais, the 8th Arraiá Cultural is scheduled for August 1 in Praça Edite Trindade. The municipal culture department will host quadrilha contests, a pau‑de‑sebo competition, a bonfire, local food stalls and a concert by singer Caio Coimbra, with backing from the city council, the Ministry of Culture and the Aldir Blanc program. Both events aim to preserve popular Junina customs and stimulate local tourism and commerce.
