Brazilian towns inaugurate indigenous school and hold cultural week for native communities

The municipality of Itaituba in Pará opened the Ikó Bijatpu Indigenous School for early childhood and primary education, a project promoted by Mayor Nicodemos Aguiar and Secretary of Administration Diego Mota. Officials said the school will preserve indigenous culture, improve educational opportunities and integrate the community into the municipal network.

In Manaus, Amazonas, the municipal education department organized the fifth edition of the “Semana Baré” cultural week in the Nova Esperança community on the Cuieiras River. Sixty‑three students from the Puranga Pisasú Indigenous School participated in games, traditional performances, body painting, craft exhibitions and intergenerational dialogues, aiming to strengthen Baré heritage and foster exchange between indigenous and non‑indigenous schools.
