Brazilian towns launch cultural festivals and proposal drive to boost community arts
The municipality of Maricá in Rio de Janeiro state staged the Festival Cultura de Direitos on July 4, gathering residents, families and participants from local art workshops for music, capoeira, photography, graffiti and other performances. Officials highlighted the event as a way to strengthen citizenship, inclusion and community ties through cultural activity.
Meanwhile, the Institute Maratona Cultural opened its Banco de Propostas for the 2027 edition of the Maratona Cultural festival in Florianópolis. Artists, collectives and cultural producers can submit projects through October 2026, aiming to shape the next festival’s programming and join a permanent proposal database. The initiative seeks to broaden curatorial diversity and sustain public participation in the city’s major cultural calendar.
