Brazilian towns launch health mutirões for eye exams and varicose‑vein treatment
The municipality of Palmital, São Paulo, partnered with Santa Casa de Palmital to conduct an ophthalmology mutirão that provided 800 SUS eye‑care consultations between July 25‑28. Mayor Luís Gustavo highlighted the initiative as part of a broader effort that has raised the city’s annual medical consultations from about 8,000 to over 18,000, with thousands of cataract and pterygium procedures performed in recent years.
In Peri Mirim, Maranhão, a varicose‑vein treatment mutirão was organized using a parliamentary amendment allocated by federal deputy Hildo Rocha. The event, coordinated with Governor Carlos Brandão and Health Secretary Orleans Brandão, served dozens of patients and was attended by vice‑mayor Rosa Pinheiro, who praised the deputy’s direct oversight of the resources.
