Brazilian towns open support centers for women facing violence and seniors

The municipality of Cocal do Sul inaugurated the "Juntos Somos Mais Fortes" program, creating a dedicated space that provides psychological counseling, legal guidance and integrated protection services for women, children, adolescents and families affected by domestic violence. The initiative, a partnership between the city administration and the Instituto Quem Aprende e Se Defende (I‑QASED), aims to expand the local protection network and address the 51 new cases reported in the first five months of this year.

In the Federal District, the Legislative Chamber held a ceremony to honor the "Bombeiro Amigo" program of the Military Firefighters Corps, which serves around 1,300 senior citizens. The program promotes active aging through regular physical activities, health monitoring and social interaction, with officials highlighting its role in preventing illness and strengthening community ties. Participants and officials praised the initiative for improving quality of life for the elderly.

Both programs reflect local government efforts in Brazil to strengthen social protection for vulnerable populations, combining health, legal and community resources.
