Brazilian municipalities extend Refis 2026 tax debt relief program

Several Brazilian municipalities have resumed or extended their 2026 municipal tax debt regularisation programmes (Refis). In João Pessoa, the municipal revenue office reopened in‑person service on 25 May, offering up to 90 % discount on interest and 80 % on fines for payments made by 10 July, with a further 5 % discount for online filings. Augustinópolis extended its deadline to 21 August, allowing up to 100 % discount for cash payment and parceling up to 36 installments with tiered reductions. Canela reported more than 250 enrolments, projecting around R$ 7 million in revenue and offering up to 100 % discount on interest and fines, with repayment options up to 48 months. Feijó approved new IPTU rules and pushed the Refis deadline to 31 August, while Barra Mansa set a deadline of 18 December and permits instalments from 12 to 120 months. Belford Roxo’s deadline ends on 26 June, providing up to 100 % discount on interest and fines and allowing up to 36 installments. The programmes target debts such as IPTU, ISS, ITBI, service fees and penalties, aiming to increase municipal cash flow for public services like health, education and infrastructure.
