Brazilian traffic accidents: pedestrian dead in Macaé, cyclist wounded in Rio Branco

A 21‑year‑old woman, Ana Luísa Patrocínio Machado, was killed after being struck by a bus on Rua José de Aguiar Franco in the Costa do Sol neighbourhood of Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, on the morning of 9 June. Police investigations are examining whether the driver provided aid and whether the bus was traveling within the 40 km/h speed limit. The bus operator, ASIT Macaé, expressed condolences and is cooperating with authorities.

On the night of 12 June, 57‑year‑old Maria Cidália Aparecida Paixão suffered multiple fractures, including breaks to her tibia, fibula and nose, after a car hit her while she was cycling on Rua Mauá in the João Eduardo II district of Rio Branco, Acre. Bystanders provided initial assistance and she was taken to the local emergency department for treatment. Police are also investigating the circumstances of this collision.
