Brazilian transport operators win top sustainability awards

MobiBrasil, a public‑transport operator in Brazil’s Northeast, was named first‑place winner of the 2026 TransportAR Award. The prize, organized by the regional transport federation FETRONOR and the Despoluir programme, recognised the company’s achievements in reducing vehicle emissions, implementing socio‑environmental practices and promoting a more sustainable urban bus system. The award ceremony took place in João Pessoa, Pernambuco, and highlighted the broader regional effort involving 36 companies from Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba.

The Brazilian state of Goiás also received international acclaim by winning the 2026 UITP Awards in Brussels. The honor was given for a comprehensive transformation of the metropolitan public‑transport network, including fleet renewal with electric and biometane buses, clean‑fuel adoption, corridor upgrades, a metronised BRT system and modernised terminals. Governor Daniel Vilela noted that the reforms were achieved without raising fares, which have remained at R$ 4.30 since 2019, positioning Goiás as a reference for sustainable urban mobility in Brazil and abroad.
