Brazilian travelers increasingly use sports to drive international tourism
A study by Booking.com reveals that 30% of Brazilian travelers have already made international trips to attend sporting events. While football remains a major passion, other sports are increasingly driving sports tourism.
Volleyball leads interest among Brazilian travelers at 41%, followed by basketball at 34%, with combat sports and motorsports both at 28%. The data shows significant engagement in specific demographics; for instance, 16% of Millennials interested in combat sports intend to travel to watch events in person, while 17% of Generation X motorsports fans express similar travel intentions.
For many travelers, the sporting event is only one part of the journey. Half of the respondents (50%) state that they make a point of exploring the destination's local culture and attractions when traveling for a major competition. In contrast, 26% of travelers maintain that the sporting event remains their primary objective, placing other activities in the background.
